REVEALED: How Bawa’s letter of inquiry to CCB about Tinubu in 2020 landed him in trouble [SEE LETTER]
The suspension of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, AbdulRasheed Bawa on Wednesday night, by President Bola may be connected to a letter of inquiry written to the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB by Bawa dated November 6, 2020.
Bawa had written a letter in his capacity as the EFCC zonal head in Lagos inquiring about Bola Adekunle Tinubu.
Bawa was suspended from office through a letter issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by the Director of Information, Willie Bassey.
The letter didn’t state explicitly explain Bawa’s offences.
Bawa had, through a letter with reference No. CR: 3000/EFCC/LS/CMU/TAF/VOL.4/322, and dated 6, November, 2020, written to the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau.
In the letter obtained by Peoples Gazette, titled: “RE INVESTIGATION”, and personally signed by Bawa, was seeking information on “BOLA AHMED ADEKUNLE TINUDU” and one other person.
The letter was making reference to previous correspondence between the EFCC and the CCB.
“This Commission’s letter CR3000/EFCCLS/CMU/TAF/VOL. 3/337 dated 4h September, 2020 (copy attached] and your response CCB/HQ/FPOD/WF/12021/1\/265 dated 9h October, 2020 on the above subject refers.“In view of the above, you are kindly requested to furnish the Commission with the outstanding requested information of Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu.
“This request is made pursuant to Section 38 (1) and (2) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004.“While treating as very urgent, accept the assurances of the acting Executive Chairman’s highest regards, please,” the letter reads.
