House Speakership: Betara, Gagdi announce withdrawal from race after meeting Tinubu
Both men announced their withdrawal Sunday evening at the State House in Abuja after meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
Ahead of Tuesday’s inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, two leading aspirants for the House of Representatives, Aliu Betara and Yusuf Gagdi have announced their withdrawal from race.
The announcement was after both contenders have with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday night at the Aso Rock presidential villa, Abuja.
Betara is a lawmaker from Borno, the home State of the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima.
Despite coming from Borno, Betara has been canvassing for support from his lawmaker-elects until Sunday’s meeting with Tinubu.
He however, declared support for the emergence Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the endorsed candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The APC had on May 9, 2023 zoned the offices of Speaker and Deputy to the North West and South East respectively.
The election of the new speaker will be held Tuesday after the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.
