I will work to stabilise NASS – Yari
Senator-elect representing Zamfara West Senatorial District and former governor Abdullaziz Yari said, he would work to stabilise the National Assembly, if becomes the 10th Senate President.
He promised to assist President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to move the nation forward as such is need at this time.
Yari, who is a strong contender for the position of the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly spoke at a breakfast meeting with newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, saying that his administration as Senate President will be open, democratic and transparent.
He said “under my leadership the 10th Senate will have a cordial and purposeful relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deliver his vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria”.
As Senate President, he said, he will give a helping hand for Tinubu to move the nation forward, particularly as himself and the President have come a long way.
Yari said: “I will aggregate opinions to ensure that Nigeria come first and party come second,” he said.
According to him, he has all the requisite experience and quality to lead the National Assembly to achieve cordial and complementary relationship with other arms of government, particularly, the Executive.
Speaking further on his qualities, Yari said “I have strong connections across the 36 states and understand the nuances of the nation.
He said his experience and carrier in politics on the political terrain spanned over two decades and half starting with when in 1999 he served as secretary of All Peoples Party (APP) between 199 and 2023 after which he was elected chairman of APP then ANPP Zamfara State in 2023.
According to him, “I later rose to the position of National Financial Secretary of the ANPP where I served till 2007 when I was elected as member representing Anka/Talatan Mafara Ferderal constituency from 2007 to 2011.
“I was elected Governor of Zamfara State on the platform of ANPP when I defeated the incumbent Governor Mahmuda Shinkafi and in 2015 I was re elected.”
He said he was also elected chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum by his colleagues Governors
“I am assuring you that I have what it takes to make a difference. We will build constant synergy to unify our nation”.
He, however, said there is an ongoing negotiation with the camps of Senators Orji Uzor Kalu, Osita Izunaso and Sani Musa.
