NCC is anti-corruption war compliant – Director

The Director of Human Capital and Administration of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Mr. Usman Malah said, the agency is anti-corruption war complaint, saying that the development has been recognized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as an ethically-compliant public institution, remains steadfast in its collaborative efforts with other government agencies.

Representing the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, Malah told a delegation from the Public Complaints Commission, PCC, reiterating the Commission’s commitment to embracing a digital culture in Nigeria.

Change of Name

According to him, the Commission has impressive score of 81.15 percent on the ICPC’s Ethics Compliance and Integrity Scorecard (ECIS) in 2020, placing it among the top 10 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) out of the 352 assessed.

Malah stated, “This performance also positions the Commission as the most ethically compliant government regulatory agency in 2020 under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.”

Considering its track record, NCC is eager to collaborate with the PCC to bolster the government’s anti-corruption campaign, particularly targeting corruption and negative behaviors among Nigerian youth. The Commission recognizes the importance of the PCC’s public enlightenment programs and intends to actively engage stakeholders, including the youth and students, to foster sustainable anti-corruption practices and support initiatives that stimulate the national economy within the telecommunications sector.

Malah emphasized that the NCC aligns strongly with the PCC’s core objective of addressing administrative injustices and promoting social justice, given the evolving complexities brought about by technology and diverse practices.

Philip Enyali, representing the Chief Commissioner of the PCC, commended Prof. Danbatta for maintaining a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and acknowledged the NCC’s significant contributions to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and overall economic growth.

Enyali shared that the purpose of the visit was to inform the telecom regulator about the upcoming Anti-Corruption Marathon and the National Youth and Students Summit, both aimed at curbing corrupt tendencies among Nigerian youth and discouraging their involvement in corrupt practices.

With its resolute commitment to ethical practices and cooperation with government bodies, the NCC reinforces its pivotal role in promoting a corruption-free Nigeria and driving sustainable socio-economic development.
