Kogi 2023 Accord Party governorship candidate, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin (Rtd), says Kogi East still working on ‘consensus’
The governorship candidate for the 2023 election on the platform of Accord Party, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin (Rtd) said, consensus candidate for the November 11, 2023 was still in the works, hence, rumours making the round about a particular candidate should be disregarded.
He said the task of flushing out the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State is the responsibility of Kogi citizens, hence, he called on his teeming supporters across the State and Kogi East in particular to disregard the purported endorsement of anyone.
In a statement he signed and posted on the facebook of Mr. Itodo Dennis account, the General turned politician urged all stakeholders to ensure that the right thing is done in a way that is acceptable to all and sundry, so that Kogi East can reclaim power after Yahaya Bello’s tenure on 26th January, 2024.
The post reads:
“Firstly, I would like to use this medium to appreciate my numerous supporters in Kogi East and Kogi State in general for their interest to verify the authenticity of the purported consensus candidate making the rounds especially on social media.
“It is pertinent to note that there are revered stakeholders and social cultural bodies representing various interests known to have over the decades shown direction in terms of who leads or represent our people.
“These stakeholders and the social cultural bodies have not endorsed any consensus candidate. In due time, they will unanimously take a stand on the issue of consensus candidate and I therefore, call on all my supporters, well meaning indigenes of Kogi East and Kogi state in general to ignore any contrary information published by paid social media merchants.
“Kindly be aware that the process for a consensus is ongoing and our people know among the leaders who can unify the state that is already polarized into ethnic and religious lines.
“Kogi people are not unaware of the political situation in the state which is why they are eager to do away with nepotistic tendencies and the ploy to foist an unpopular candidate to Kogi people by the APC leadership in the state. In unison, Kogi people are ready to resist any 3rd term agenda.”
In conclusion, I enjoin all supporters to disregard the insinuation that Kogi East has arrived at a consensus. May Allah bless the good people of Kogi State for their perseverance while awaiting good governance.”
