Former majority leader in Kogi State House of Assembly, Friday Sani Makama has been appointed as Director General of Special Taskforce on illegal smuggling of fire arms.
The appointment which was approved by Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello was contained in a letter dated 8th May, 2023 and signed by the Secretary to the State government, Dr Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade.
In a statement on Tuesday May 9,2023,.which was signed by the Commissioner of Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, said, the Taskforce was expected to tell those already in possession of firearms to submit them voluntarily.
The letter read: “The need to set up Special Taskforce of illegal smuggling of firearms is as a result of the need for recalibration effort in security architecture of the State to ensure that firearms are not illegally smuggled into the State to perpetuate the nefarious activities by criminal elements.”
Kogi State government said, it ack acknowledge increase in proliferation of firearms in the State where there are in hands of unlicensed or untrained individuals.
