Kwara: LG chairmanship aspirant promises TV, radio stations in 100 days
Leading chairmanship aspirant for Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, Hon. Abdul-Hameed Oladipupo Alli aka Mr. Nigeria, has promised that his administration, if elected, would facilitate resumption of full operations by the abandoned television station as well as establish a functional radio station in the area for accurate information dissemination to the people.
Besides, Alli, who said that the two stations, when established, would provide job opportunities for the teeming youth in the area, disclosed that the television station “actually had its test transmission during a Joint Revenue Committee, JRC meeting of the 16 local government Transition Implementation Committee, TIC chairmen with the then chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Services, KWIRS sometimes in 2017.”
The chairmanship aspirant, in a statement issued over the weekend, vowed to make history by becoming the first local government chairman to establish a functional Online TV station in the country.
Alli, a professional journalist and career publisher turned grassroots politician, in the statement signed by his Head of New Media, Ahmed Olusola, said ensuring dissemination of accurate information, entertainment, creativity and positive engagement of the youth via employment opportunities, were part of his manifesto for the growth and development of the council area.
“Let me use the occasion of this World Press Freedom Day to release another leg of my manifesto, as it concerns the press or media development in Ilorin West Local Government. If by the grace of God, I emerge victorious as the elected council chairman in the forthcoming election, the establishment of the two stations is a done deal,” he stated.
Alli, who is a former TIC chairman in the local government, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the establishment of the first ever radio station in Kwara North, Nootia FM and Kaakaki FM in Ilorin as well as ensuring 24 hours transmission on Kwara TV and Radio Kwara.
He also hailed the governor over the payment of N22.5 million backlog of debts owed the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC by the radio and television stations since 2006 as well as the face lift and better working environment given to the state government- owned The Herald Newspaper, among others.
While describing AbdulRazaq as a press-friendly governor, noted that “the number one citizen has added life to the media world by making history of becoming the first governor to establish a radio station in the entire Kwara North.”
“I will also make history by becoming the first local government chairman to establish a functional Online TV station in this part of the continent to the advantage of my people if elected He stated further that if elected.
“I will commission the Ilorin West TV along with the foundation laying ceremony of the proposed AGF AbdulRazaq Ilorin Central and the inauguration of a committee for the establishment of a market place in Warah/Osin/Egbejila Ward, among other yet to be revealed projects in my Vision 2030 Development Plan and Governor AbdulRazaq’s 10 years master plan for Ilorin metropolis,” he stressed.
According to him, “apart from providing fora to educate, entertain and inform the people, it will as well provide employment opportunities for the qualified ones in the local government area just like the way Governor AbdulRazaq has provided employment for the people of Baruten Local Government Area with the establishment Nootia TV.”
