NIDCOM appeals to Egyptian gov’t to allow 7,000 nationals fleeing Sudan have access to their destinations
The Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has appealed to the Egyptian government and those in the contiguous countries to be humane and allow stranded 7000 Africans including Nigerians to pass through their borders.
Dabiri-Erewa made the appeal as the Egyptian government denied the already traumatised nationals access, insisting that they must obtained visa before crossing to Egypt.
The 7000 nationals were fleeing the war-torn Sudan and have been stranded at the Egyptian border since their arrival on Thursday.
She added that the Nigerian mission in Egypt has been working tirelessly on this as the Egyptian authorities are insisting on visas by fellow Africans to transit back to their countries.
NIDCOM therefore appealed to the Egyptian authorities to kindly allow the already traumatised travellers to transit to their final destinations in various countries in Africa.
Sudanese Military and the Special Paramilitary Response have been locked in battle with heavy casualties since the war started few days ago.
Both warring groups are reportedly not keeping to ceasefire agreement,.a development that has given the international community a serious concern.
