The Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Productivity, Festus Keyamo has said, the lawmakers were out to bypass him to execute the 774,000 Special Works recruitment in all the Local Governments in Nigeria.

He spoke at the backdrop of the Joint Committee on Labour and Productivity’s insistence that “steps and actions taken by the Minister of State for Labour has been nullified.”

Keyamo who appeared before the Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives with the Minister of Labour,.Employment and Productivity, Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige have earlier met with the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan over the impasse where Lawan insisted on the role of the parliament in the project.

However, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN) who was quiet watching the Minister apologising to the joint Committee on Labour over the altercation on Tuesday last week spoke to the press after the meeting where he explained that “Senators and member of House of Reps members are insisting on taking away the job given to him by President Muhammadu Buhari.”

He accused the National Assembly of bypassing him over the recruitment of 774,000 into public works.

“The whole purpose of the meeting was based on how to bypass me in the recruitment exercise.

“By the provision of the National Directorate of Employment Act, you can’t do anything without the approval of the Minister,” adding that he is acting on the mandate of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said: “It is important for all Nigerians to go and read the NDE Act.

“The whole struggle of today is how to bypass me.”
