Bayelsa, Imo, Kogi: APC forwards Sylva, Uzodima, Ododo for gubernatorial election
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has forwarded the names of its candidates for the November 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states.
This is coming barely 48 hours after the governorship primary elections in these three states.
The names of the candidates were contained in a letter with reference number APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/023/224 and dated 17th April 2023 by the party to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) signed by Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
The letter, titled, “Forwarding of the list of party gubernatorial candidates for Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States” reads in part:
“We write to forward the under-listed of our party’s candidates to your Commission for the 2023 off-session Gubernatorial Elections.
1. His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva – Bayelsa State
2. His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzordima – Imo State
3. Ahmed Usman Ododo – Kogi State
“Above for your information and necessary action”
It will be recalled that the party’s shadow elections were held in the three states ahead of the November 11, 2023 governorship elections in the states.
In Kogi, 18 aspirants signified intention to contest for the party’s ticket but only 7 contested, as 8 aspirants stepped down, one withdrew and one was disqualified.
For Bayelsa State, six aspirants slugged it out while only Governor Hope Uzordima was the only aspirant before the weekend primary from Imo State.
Meanwhile, the outcome of the APC primary in Bayelsa and Kogi States are been contested by some aspirants complaining that the exercise in the two states was fraught with irregularities.
