NNPP’s governorship victory: Kano residents celebrates, defy curfew
Kano State residents on Monday defied dusk-dawn-curfew to celebrate the New Nigeria Peoples Party governorship victory on Monday.
CAPITAL POST reported on Monday that violence sparked immediately after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s Returning Officer announced Yusuf Abba as winner of last Saturday’s governorship election in the State.
Videos show the residents in large numbers jubilating the emergence of Abba, despite the imposed curfew.
The Abdullahi Umar Ganduje government in an announcement by the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew to de-escalate crisis.
Garba said: “This curfew is to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the already tense situation.”
According to the results declared by the Returning Officer in the state, Professor Ahmed Ibrahim, the NNPP candidate polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nasiru Gawuna of All Progressives’ Congress, who polled 890,705 votes.
