Senate presidency race: Buhari, Umahi in closed door meeting
The governor of Ebonyi State and Senator-elect, Engr. David Umahi on Tuesday met with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors at the Aso Rock presidential villa, Abuja.
Both Buhari and Umahi exchanged pleasantries at the State House before they proceeded to the meeting.
The agenda for the meeting may be connected with the governor’s interest in the Senate presidency of the 10th National Assembly which was believed that it would be zoned to the South East.
Though, the agenda wasn’t made known, but feelers pointed it to the interest in the Senate presidency which the governor has indicated his interest.
Umahi will be a first timer after being sworn-in, while they are other ranking Senators contesting for the Office of the Senate President.
Ranking Senators who are eyeing the seat are, Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Senator Godswill Akpabio; Adams Oshiomhole; amongst others.
