BREAKING: Delta PDP governorship candidate escapes assassination few days to election
The governoship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Sunday escaped being assassinated by a yet-to-be identified gunmen.
Reports said Oborevwori was ambushed along the Warri/Sapele Highway on Sunday by unknown gunmen who opened fire on his convoy.
An associate of the governoship candidate, who pleaded anonymity explained that Oborevwori who is the incumbent Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly came under heavy attack from unknown gunmen between Elume junction and Okuabude in Okpe Local Government Area of the State.
In a statement on Tuesday to confirm the incident to reporters, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Dennis Otu said, his boss escaped the assassination attempt.
The statement revealed that the vehicle conveying the Speaker and some security vehicles were riddled with assassin’s bullets.
He said, the incident took place at about 9:05pm when he went to Sapele for political meetings and on his way back to Osubi, “the unknown gunmen ambushed the convoy and launched a heavy attack on him, spraying his car and backup vehicles with bullets.”
