Few days to the governorship and House of Assembly elections, four opposition political parties in Nasarawa State are planning merger to defeat governor Abdullahi Sule of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC on Saturday.
The parties whose governorship candidates have already met are Alhaji Abdullahi Yakubu Maidoya, of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Mustapha Abubakar of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alaku Godwin of the Action Alliance (AA), and Sen. Yusuf Musa Nagogo the candidate of PRP, respectively.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Alhaji Yakubu Maidoya denied insinuations making round that the four governorship candidates have stepped down for the incumbent governor ahead of March 18, 2023 election.
Maidoya stated that the four political parties have also agreed to form a merger to work for their victory in the next governorship election on Saturday in the state.
The NNPP, gubernatorial candidate further explained that the news of their merger would soon be announced to the general public and their teeming supporters in the state.
He said, “We want to categorically state that non of us are even considering step-down for the candidate of ruling All Progressive Congress APC and we will not step down for APC. As I speak, our campaign is still on to unseat the incumbent governor.
“We want to inform the general public that we have also agreed and we are meeting to form a merger to present one of us as the sole candidate to unseat governor Abdullahi Sule,” he said.
They, however, called on the Nasarawa State citizens to vote for their candidates for the seat of governor and Houses of Assembly on 18th March 2023.
