Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has removed his name from the Adogba Central Mosque, Ibadan.
CAPITAL POST recalled that heavy criticisms trailed the inscription of Seyi Makinde’s name on the mosque by some Islamic organisations and individuals.
His name on the mosque sparked controversy in a manner that his electoral chances were threatened,. should he failed to remove it.
Our correspondent learnt that one of governor Makinde’s media aides, Oriyomi Hamzat led the removal of the name from the mosque on Sunday.
This move was welcomed by members of the Muslim community, who appreciated the governor’s willingness to listen to their grievances.
Amid the controversies, prominent Islamic Clerics criticised Makinde for politicising Islam in Oyo and warned him to desist from using Islam as a tool to gain political advantage.
A worshipper in Adogba reacting to the development, said: “Regardless of the differing opinions, the removal of Governor Makinde’s name from Adogba Central Mosque serves as a reminder that religious institutions should be respected and protected from political interference.
“It also highlights the importance of listening to the concerns of the community and taking necessary action to address them.”
