Kaduna gov’t to handover shops to traders few days to governorship election
Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has announced that his administration will hand over shops
to Kasuwar Barci traders.
Kasuwar Barci is one of the oldest markets in the state.
The development is coming few days to the governoship and State House of Assembly elections.
Announcing this on his Facebook page, El-Rufai said, arrangements have been concluded for the traders to have their shops back on Monday 13th March, 2023.
According to the statement, traders and applicants are required to provide their application letters and proof of payment.
Journalists who visited the market discovered that reconstruction work was still ongoing in some parts of the market, while some traders called on the state government to complete the market’s reconstruction so that they can all move into their shops at once.
A shoe seller who didn’t mention his name said, “As you can see for yourself, there are still works to be done in the market, which means only few people would be given the shops,” he said.
Shehu, a second-hand clothes seller, said “I only heard about the handover on social media. Maybe, only politicians will be given shops, not the real traders or shops owners.”
When contacted, the Managing Director Kaduna Market Development and Management Company, Tamar Nandul, said there are 1,010 shops in blocks A and D that are completed.
“We are giving out shops in blocks A and D; those are the blocks completed and once we hand over to them (traders), they can also begin partial operations,” she said.
According to her, there would be a gate that will serve the traders while the rest of the market is being completed.
