General election: NPF raises alarm over circulation of fake results

As the nation awaits the official results of the Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly, the Nigeria Police High Command on Sunday raised the alarm over the spreading and circulation of alleged/fake elections results on social media and other news platforms, which are contrary to the policy and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This was contained in a statement made available to news men in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer FPRO CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Change of Name

According to the statement, “the Police has perceived this trend as a calculated attempt to heat up the polity and possibly create post elections chaos.

While regarding this as “a disservice, unpatriotic, and a disinformation” the Police warned those who spreading these alleged/fake election results to desist from such mischievous acts and wait patiently for INEC’s official results, which would be authentic and tenable.

The statement urged Nigerians to remain calm, and go about their lawful engagements, while those “who are billed to go to the polls today are requested to be orderly and law-abiding as we have re-enforced our security strategies for the smooth conclusion of the 2023 General Elections”.

This came just as the security has again bee beefed nationwide ahead of the official announcement but the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC

A top security told our Reporter that the action followed the request made to the security Forces by the Chairman of the INEC, Prof. Manhood Yakubu over spate of attacks on Electoral officials, it’s facilities, mass stealing and attack of BVAS machines in some areas.

According to the source, “upon the request by the INEC Chairman and the reported cases of security breach and the need to prepare for the official announcement of the winners of the elections so as not to be caught napping, the heads of the security forces have to meet and resolved to beef security nationwide, the security architecture for the general elections has not been called off.

“Right now, the heads of security agencies are working round the clock to do the needful to ensure absolute peace all through.
