Coalition urges Accord party presidential candidate to step down for Tinubu
Three days to the general election, the Coalition for Nigeria’s Youth & Students Union is urging the presidential candidate of Accord party, Prof Chris Imumolen to step down and support the ruling party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Convener of the coalition, Comrade Khalid Abbas at a media briefing in Abuja, said the call is apt considering the achievements of the APC presidential candidate while he was a governor in Lagos state and his contribution to the party since inception.
Comrade Khalid who is known for criticising Tinubu and canvassing for young persons to hold political offices in Nigeria surprisingly took a u-turn.
He said the reason he is supporting Ahmed Tinubu candidacy is because, of all the people contesting for the post of the Presidency in the generalelections, Bola Tinubu is the most qualified.
He said “I have always advocated for youth presidency, someone whom I feel understand our pains but these few days to the election,we have to face reality.
“I wrote a letter to the presidential candidate of the Accord party appealing to him to step down for the APC Presidential candidate Ahmed Bola Tinubu believing he will understand reasons behind it.
We need to understand that elections is based on capacity, structure and funding. When he showed his interest we were happy because he is a youth like us and will be able to represent us properly.
“For the past weeks I have been having a lot of interviews,I think I am among the few of the Youths that have the opportunity to speak for the presidency, the first person I have really spoken against was the APC candidate for the fact that I think he is aged and someone that can not understand our feelings as youths. But after series of conversations, findings and arguments, we thought of people like Peter Obi ,who is also somehow a youth but he lacks capacity, so I don’t think he will have the chance of becoming a president, maybe he will in future.
“In life, at times you need to make a hard decision and our stand now is the presidential candidate of the APC”, he added.
