Oyo 2023: I didn’t step down for Makinde – SDP guber candidate
The 2023 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP in Oyo State, Michael Folorunso Lana said he was not interested in stepping down for governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General gave the indication on Sunday in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
He spoke at the backdrop of some members of SDP who said on Saturday that Makinde has been adopted by the party in the State.
Those who spoke are Chief Bolaji Ayorinde and Mr. Adewwole Adeshina. They maintained that they had also adopted the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the party.
Mr Lana denied the adoption, saying he is contesting on the platform of SDP, adding that Adeshina, who claimed to be National Deputy Secretary of the party, is not a member of the party.
In a statement which he issued and made available to journalists on Sunday, the SDP governorship candidate insisted that himself and other candidates contesting for various political offices beginning from from February 25, remains intact.
He described the rumour of adopting Makinde as fake news.
Lana said, “Let the public also ask Engr Adewole whether the name of Chief Ayorinde, SAN, was the name published by INEC as the SDP’s candidate for Oyo State or he has not woken up from his slumber to realise that Chief Ayorinde was only the party’s candidate in 2019 and not for 2023 election”.
