Fani-Kayode regrets for raising coup alarm
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has regretted for raising coup alarm without verification.
Fani-Kayode is the All Progressives Director of Special Projects and New Media of the Presidential Campaign Council and is known for making controversial statements.
He was invited by the secret police over several tweets on Saturday alleging that the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar met with high-ranking military officers with a view to carry out a coup.
The sober-looking Fani-Kayode told journalists in Abuja that he would have been circumspect and confirm before tweeting the information on his Twitter handle.
He said the DSS operatives grilled him five hours, suggesting that they were ready for him, but was encouraged that he didn’t hide anything to them.
According to him, he was asked to report back to the headquarters of the secret police on Wednesday from where he will also be reporting to them once in a week until conclusion of their investigation.
8 “I think it’s left to them until they now decide whether they feel the need to take a much more approach to charge me to court, or when they feel that I’ve done nothing wrong. But during the course of the discussion, I think it’s fair for me to mention one or two things. I think it’s very self-evident that some of the things that said were regrettable.
“Why do I say so? When news comes out, like somebody’s meeting with Army officers, perhaps one should not have simply believe and accept it even if it is true.
