Pro Nigeria Group on Monday carried out a protest in Abuja to support the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The protesters carried out placard with inscriptions like “The CBN mean well for Nigerians; CBN isn’t our enemy, corrupt politicians are; The only time we are agreeing with the President; These hard moment won’t last; CBN, purge yourself and the commercial banks you govern; Mr President charge the saboteurs of the new naira policy with treasonable felony”.

The protesters marched from the unity fountain in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the CBN in solidarity to support the new policy.

The group explain that they are supporting the recent policy because it is favourable to the country’s economy.

Speaking, the convener of the Pro Nigeria Group, Mr Isaac Balami said the policy will not only reduce money inducements during the elections but will also contribute to the fight against terrorism and kidnapping.

He urged the apex bank to monitor operations of all commercial banks accross the country and ensure that they do the right thing so as to ameliorate the difficulty people experience in a bid to get cash from the bank.

“We are also here because we know that central bank has the power and the full autonomy to force the banks in Nigeria to do the right thing so that the suffering can end.

“We don’t want vote buying. We don’t want the people to suffer.

“This policy favours fight against terrorism. This policy favours fight against kidnappers. It favours fight against vote buying. This policy is good, it has happened in India and in other part of the world. If India with over a billion population can find a way to survive this and they were only given four hours notice, Nigeria can do better.

“We want CBN to assure Nigerians that it will not succumb to pressure and betray Nigerians”.
