2023: Ikpeazu’s ex-CoS succeed late Ikonne as Abia PDP governorship candidate
The immediate past Chief of Staff to the governor of Abia State, Okey Ahiwe has been elected to replace late Prof. Uche Ikonne as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate.
He was elected on Saturday, 4th February, 2023 in a fresh primary election conducted by the Peoples Democratic Party.
CAPITAL POST gathered that four aspirants indicated interest for governorship and contested, but Ahiwe emerged winner with 469 votes, out of 516 total votes cast.
A contestant, Ude Oko Chukwu scored 12 votes, Don Lulu 12 Votes, and Samson Orji polled 11 votes.
The Election Committee for the PDP primary, Godwin Obaseki of Edo State
announced the results after counting, saying, total vote cast 516, Chief Okey Ahiwe 469, Rt Hon Ude, Oko Chukwu 12 Votes, Don Lulu 12 Votes, Samson Orji 11.
CAPITAL POST recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC urged the Peoples Democratic Party to conduct fresh governorship primary within 14 days as stipulated in the amended Electoral Act replace the late governorship candidate.
