Mock Accreditation: INEC uncovers voter with multiple registrations in Imo
At the mock accreditation in Obowo Local Government Area in Imo State, a voter with double registration was uncovered as the officials were on routine monitoring of the exercise.
The incident happened at Alike ward, primary school ikenanzizi, polling unit, with code 16-16-01-01 where a voter presented his Permanent Voter’s Card, PVC, to be accredited, his name was checked on the voters register and was discovered that his card carried a different name from that of voter register.
At monitoring was National Commissioner, Kenneth ukeagu Imo state REC, prof. Sylvia Agu, Directors of INEC and members of INEC staff.
Immediately, the Presiding Officer was asked for his information on the
BVAS his name came up but bearing the name he registered with in 2017.
Officials queried and then found that the PVC the voter came with was bearing “Ibekwe Chinaza Christian” while the name in BVAS has “Ibekwe Chinaza Epere”.Also, his VIN is different from that of the voter register and BVAS. In addition to separate birth dates.
When questioned if he did a double registration, he admitted that he registered in Owerri Municipal in 2017 but collected his PVC in February 2022.
However, because he wanted to cast his vote at Alike ward he did another registration.
The Electoral Officer in charge of the ward retrieved the PVC for further investigation.
While the officials said they will report the incident to the INEC Headquarters.
