The Igbo Youth Congress (IYC) of the Southeast has called on the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Muhammed, to re-arrest the Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).
The call was contained in a statement issued by the National President of the socio-political organization, Dr. Stephen Nwafor, which was obtained by CAPITAL POST.
The youth Group made the call following the allegation of $10 million bribe Ugochinyere claimed that the Speaker of the House of Representatives; Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, allegedly collected from Bill Gates Foundation to pass the Infectious Disease Control Bill.
Nwafor decried what he described as the desperation of the CUPP Spokesman to satisfy certain political elements in the country, who propelled him to make the allegation against the nation’s number four citizen.
The Group further described Ugochinyere’s action as confrontational and a recipe for ethno-sectional crisis, stressing that the solution to the looming problem was for the IGP to re-arrest and prosecute him.
The statement also insinuated that the CUPP Spokesman was doing the bidding of his pay-masters, who allegedly hired him to do the hatchet job, and by extension cajole the entire Igbo race to support his purported inordinate ambition.
“We are deeply worried that a man with no certificate, no verifiable address and known for evil projects would choose to ridicule the entire Igbos especially the Igbo lawmakers in the National Assembly by leveling such unfounded allegation.
“Let him tell the world when he graduated from the university and the year of his NYSC. Because of his gullibility, he has allowed himself to be used by desperate politicians to mock the country at it’s trying moment”, the statement said.
The President General stated that the country needed the assistance of productive youths to overcome the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic and not to be attacked by persons parading themselves as spokespersons.
He expressed concerns that if not checked, the likes of Ugochinyere would drag the image of Ndi Igbo to the mud, as such attack on prominent citizens such as the Speaker might attract misfortunes to the Igbo race.
Also speaking on the matter, the National Secretary of the Association, Hon. Anthony Orji, noted with dismay how the allegation of $10 million against the Speaker had circulated the internet, presenting the Speaker in a negative false light.
He described the allegation made by Ugochinyere against the Speaker as mark of arrogance and lack of respect for leaders, saying that the CUPP Spokesperson’s action was an act of cowardice, stressing that he should be prosecuted, to serve as deterrent to others.
The Coalition of United Political Parties had on May 5, 2020, alleged that lawmakers in the House of Representatives were offered $10 million for the speedy passage of the Vaccination Bill by the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates.
CUPP in a statement in Abuja, said that it was in possession of intelligence report that the leadership of the House was determined to pass the compulsory vaccine bill without subjecting it to the traditions of legislative proceedings.
In a statement signed by Ugochinyere, CUPP implored the lawmakers in the House to rise against impunity, urging that the Speaker should be impeached if he forced the bill on members.
Angered by this allegation, the House passed a resolution a fortnight ago, asking the Police to arrest Ugochinyere, a directive that was carried out without hesitation by the Force.
However, after his release from detention on Tuesday, the CUPP Mouth Piece addressed the press, insisting that he stood by his allegation against Gbajabiamila and his colleagues.
