BREAKING: DSS invades CBN in search of Emefiele over terrorism financing allegation
Operatives of the Department of State Security on Monday invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in which CAPITAL POST believes were in search of the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The Secret Police immediately took over the office of the governor at the headquarters of the bankers’ bank.
The operation may not be unconnected with allegation by the DSS that Godwin Emefiele was involved in terrorism financing and other economic crimes which the agency has approached a court, seeking to arrest him, before their motion was declined.
CAPITAL POST reports that the Federal Capital Territory High Court declined in granting the order of arrest in December 2022.
Amid the hunt for the embattled Emefiele, his lawyers approached the Court seeking restraint order from arresting, inviting or detaining Emefiele by the DSS or any other security agencies which the Court granted the order.
DSS stormed CBN headquarters on Monday noon with 20 vehicles filled with armed personnel.
The operatives also barred all staff of the bank from gaining access to Mr Emefiele’s office.
Emefiele’s whereabout has not been clear as at the time of this report, but there was no information of his arrest in Monday’s operation by the DSS.
