The Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Abu Giri has been accused of grabbing Peoples land within the Council area.

He was said to have been forcefully taking over peoples land in the guise of area council properties, a development that is spewing bad omen for the party that brought him to power.

Change of Name

Following the ugly development, a concerned group, operating under the aegis of ‘Gwagwalada Concerned Residents (GCR) headed by Ahmodu Mamman, said corporate and individual lands within the perimeter of the area council were being confiscated, encroached upon and sold outright, leased and Built, Operated and Sold.

In a letter of petition to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Musa Bello and the Minister of State for FCT, Ramatu Tijani a copy of which was made available to journalists, urged the Ministers to call the Council Chairman to order.

The need for Chairman to take caution, they maintained, was borne out of signs of break down of law and order, as people’s anger were increasing by the day.

The letter posited that the land grabbing exercise carried out by the chairman was without recourse to title documents, indigenization policy and other requirements.

He recalled how some shops built many years ago were sold out under the guise of contractual agreement, while shops were built directly in front of shops of local owners, discouraging occupants in the old shops.

He also said that his actions also portended a lot of danger to both pedestrians and motorists and could trigger unabated crises in the town.

He gave other instances on some allocated plot of lands unilaterally taking over by the council, which was a clear indication that his second coming to the area council was how to make more money.

He regretted the support of members of the group to the council chairman, warning that his conducts would clearly work against the chances of the party in the forthcoming general election
