Atiku, Ayu mourn death of 16 supporters in Plateau accident, donates N40 million
The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu on Sunday paid condolence visit on the former Governor of Plateau state Jonah Jang at his Du country home in Jos over Saturday’s accident which claimed the lives of 16 party supporters and left 83 others injured.
The party supporters mostly young boys were said to be returning from the party’s zonal rally in Pankshin LGA when the truck conveying them crashed near a bridge in Panyam community, Mangu LGA of the state.
In his condolence message, Atiku described the death of the party supporters as painful, saying that their sacrifices would not go in vain.
“For us, the loss is a very painful one for the lives of the young ones to be cut short at their prime. We are with you in prayers in this sad moment and we want to assure you that we will stand by you to make sure that those in the hospital receive the best medical attention”, Atiku said.
The former Vice President commended Senator Jang for the leadership of PDP in Plateau and assured him that “nobody body makes sacrifices without the sacrifice being acknowledged and appreciated.”
Atiku also announced a cash donation of N30 million in aid to the accident victims who are still receiving treatment at the various hospitals in the state.
The National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu equally condoled the PDP family in the state and the people of Plateau state over the sad incident and prayed God to give them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
Ayu also announced a donation of N10 million to the accident victims on behalf the national PDP and said that their sacrifices would not be in vain .
He assured that they will continue to work hard not just for the PDP but for the country” to rebuild the country with greater facilities that such a thing will not happen again”.
The National Chairman added “The best we can do for those and look after their families because some of them left wives, children mother’s and loved ones behind.
In a remark, Senator Jang thanked the former Vice President and his delegation over the visit describing the gesture as a mark of “love” which the PDP is known for.
The former Governor who described the accident as sad disclosed that about ten of the surviving victims had been amputated due to the severity of the injuries which they sustained during the accident.
Pointing out that the visit of the former Vice President and the his delegation will go along way to encourage the party and the people of the state over the unfortunate incident, Senator Jang assured that the sacrifices of the party supporters would surely not go in vain .
Senator Jang later drove to the Jos University Teaching hospital to see the accident victims together with the former Vice President who was accompanied on the condolence visit with several dignatries including a former Senate President ,Bukola Saraki,
