Gwadabe Ibrahim, victim of herdsmen attack on Kaibo village, Nasarawa State
Herdsmen and farmers’ conflict resurfaced once more last week at Kaibo village, about four kilometers from Keffi town in Nassarawa State, where Gwadabe Ibrahim, a local farmer, was attacked and narrowly escaped death while harvesting yams on his farm land. His Fulani attackers who stormed the farm land with dangerous weapons of guns and cutlasses, were believed to be on a mission to kill him because he has previously challenged them for stealing his farm products.
Our reporter gathered from investigation that Gwadabe sustained serious injuries during the attack after they were unable to kill him through gun shots.
According to an eye witness, “we believe strongly that Gwadabe is well protected by local charms against gun shots that is why he was not killed before he was rescued”. He explained that immediately the villagers heard Gwadabe’s shouting for help, the Fulani attackers took to their heels while the villagers pursued them until one of the Fulani herdsmen was arrested.
“One of attackers is currently in the custody of Police Area Commander’s Office, Keffi while the injured farmer is receiving treatment in one of the private Health Clinics in Keffi.”
Our reporter also gathered that the Fulani herdsmen are using the Police to settle the issue out of court even when the villagers are unhappy and worried over the development.
The villagers are obviously angry and feeling frustrated. They recalled that only two years ago a woman in the area had been killed in similar circumstances when, after her farm crops was destroyed by Fulani herdsmen, she reported to their village head.
The issue was decided that she should be financially compensated.
Unfortunately on the day of settlement the woman was ambushed and killed by the Fulani herdsmen while nothing has been done to the murderers till today.
They are therefore appealing to the State Government and higher security authorities to protect and save them from the constant attacks of Fulani herdsmen.
