Kano: Chaos in mosque affects Friday prayer
Friday prayer at the late Dr Ahmad Ibrahim mosque at BUK Tudun Wada Yola Area of Kano was badly affected due to the lingering leadership crisis.
The jumat on Friday was troubled as some aggrieved members of the Darul Hadith mosque of the late Dr Ahmad Ibrahim blocked the path of the new Imam who was about to climb the podium to deliver sermon and lead prayer.
However, the Imam struggled to preside over the prayer, and as he attempted to make his way, his attackers held on to his gown, until the security agents waded in.
At that point worshippers began to leave in their numbers.
Reacting to the development, the Kano State Police Command Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the police acted promptly immediately they got wind of the chaos.
“The CP ordered deployment of officers to the scene to prevent further break down of law and order.”
“Our men were able to restore normalcy and the prayer held without further interruption. Meanwhile, the warring factions have been invited for interrogation,” he said.
Residents of Tudun Yola where the mosque is located went about their normal activities after the showdown.
