2023: Makinde awaits arrival of G-5 aggrieved governors, shuns Atiku campaign in Ibadan
Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde will on Thursday, 5th January, 2023, host members of G-5 governors led by Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, in Ibadan to flag-off his governorship campaign.
On Wednesday, Makinde a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shunned a presidential campaign held in Ibadan, Oyo State capital by a group operating under the auspices of National Mandate Group for the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The campaign was attended by PDP chieftains, including a former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (State), Jumoke Akinjide, and a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Wole Oyelese. Other members were former Minister of State for FCT, Hon. Olajumoke Akinjide; former Oyo Deputy Governor, Hazeem Gbolarumi, and Director Special Duty, PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Femi Babalola (Jogor), among others.
The party stalwarts, youths, women and mobilisers from across the state were seen on major streets in the Ibadan metropolis marching with banners and campaigning for Atiku ahead of the February 25, 2023, presidential election.
Seyi Makinde, and his loyalists were conspicuously absent at the rally held to garner support for the former vice president and were also absent at the media interactive session held at the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Oyo State Secretariat on Tuesday.
Makinde, who is seeking a second term of office, has vowed not to campaign for Atiku in 2023 presidential election as he has pitched his tent with the G-5 governors. Among the aggrieved group, he is the only one contesting governorship election, while others are contesting for Senate with the gang leader, Nyesom Wike not having any political interest.
