The aggrieved G5 governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) being championed by Rivers State, earlier on Friday was in disarray over choice of presidential candidate to support in 2023 election.
The governors left Nigeria for London to deliberate on who to lend support in their various States, having disagreed with their presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The governors are: Nyesom Wike (Rivers State); Seyi Makinde (Oyo State); Dr. Ikezie Ikpeazu (Abia State); Samuel Ortom (Benue State) and Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State).
The governors withdrew their support for Atiku Abubakar and insisted that the PDP’s National Chairman must resign from office before they will support their presidential candidate.
Meanwhile CAPITAL POST learnt that the discussion got to the peak of who to adopt between APC’s Bola Ahmed Tinibu and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, but they couldn’t arrive at a unanimous decision.
Ortom and Ikpeazu said the peculiarities of their States demand that they will remain neutral as making a pronouncement on the candidate to support will spell doom for them.
This didn’t go down well with Wike who became angry and walked out of the meeting before he departed for Madrid, Spain, to watch Real Madrid match this weekend.
CAPITAL POST reports that Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom is contesting for the Benue North West Senatorial District as he will end his second tenure of office on May 29, 2023.
Also, it will be an uphill task for Abia State governor who is contesting for PDP’s Abia South Senatorial district as he will be slugging it out with the former Senate Minority leader, Eyinnaya Abaribe who is contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Enugu State governor, Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi is also contesting for Enugu North Senatorial district and may be weighing on consequences of supporting the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate.
Both governors disagreed with Wike allaying fears that it will constitute anti-party that will eventually lead to their suspension from the party.
Nyesom Wike will serve out his second tenure of office in May, 2023 and is.nit contesting any election. This is even as our correspondent learnt that Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde and Wike agreed to support Tinubu on the ground that it is the turn of the South to produce presidency.
