2023: Ortom endorses Peter Obi, says he has capacity to lift citizens out of challenges
Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has openly endorsed the Labour Party, LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi ahead of 2023 general election.
He urged Nigerians to vote him to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that Obi is the best person to deliver Nigeria from its economic challenges.
Ortom spoke during Obi’s visit to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the State on Christmas day, while he praised him for the outing.
The governor prayed for the presidential candidate for God to bless his effort to become the President, adding that he has the capacity to bring justice, equity and fairness to the country..
Ortom stated that a number of presidential candidates have visited Benue State, but none of them did care to visit IDPs camps to see the plight of the victims of herdsmen attack, so that when they win, they will bring them succour, help, and hope.
Ortom said: “For you to have chosen to visit the IDPs on a Christmas day that you should be celebrating with your family, for me as a Christian, I say God will bless you and your aspirations. My prayer is that God will bless your aspiration to be the president of this country.
“Because I have seen capacity, faith, and hope, and I have seen someone who can bring the required equity, justice, and fairness that I have been pursuing since I became governor in 2015. If I were not in PDP, I would have been following you all over the place to canvass and vote for you.
“But, because I’m in PDP, I’m telling Nigerians that this man can help deliver this country from its challenges.”
While at the IDPs camp, Obi expressed sadness at the plight of victims which has lingered for the past five years.
The former Governor of Anambra State lamented that the displaced persons were forced to abandon their homes due to perversive insecurity, noting that he shared in their pains and losses.
Obi encouraged them to be patient and look to God for intervention, hence his decision to join them on a day like Christmas when many families share the love.
He challenged the Federal Government to resettle the displaced persons so that they will move on with their lives, saying that the next government will not tolerate its citizens living in IDP camps.
