Portharcourt: Families of slain Police officers to get N20 million each
Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike on Tuesday announced that the State government would give N20 million each to families of Police officers who were killed by gunmen in the Rumuokoro flyover in Port Harcourt.
The governor also disclosed that three of the assailants have been arrested by security operatives.
The Police officers were in the convoy of the Managing Director of the IGPEA Group of Oil and Gas Company when they came under attack. After killing the Police officers, the gun men abducted the Managing Director of the Company, Mr Seni Awosike.
The gunmen carried out the heinous act
on the 25th of November, 2022, but were arrested few days after.
Speaking on the development on Tuesday at the launch of the Rivers State Emblem Appeal Fund, Wike announced that the gunmen are now in Police custody.
He commended the Police for the good work they were doing.
“I think that we are tired in this country with every year meeting to launch the emblem to support families of the fallen heroes.
“What I thought, as is done in advanced countries, the day should be used for remembrance of their (veterans) efforts.
“That means, by now, as a country, we should have a standing fund that will take care of the families of the fallen heroes. That is what serious countries should be talking about.”
