Jail term: APC tells Okupe to avoid de-marketing Obi, should resign honourably
Following the conviction of Dr Doyin Okupe to a jail term of two years with an option of N13 million fine by a Federal High Court in Abuja, the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised him to resign honourably.
APC, reacting to the conviction on Tuesday, urged the Director General of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the Labour Party to immediately resign and stop parading himself as the DG.
The embattled Director General of Obi-Datti campaign was on Monday convicted for Money Laundering that runs into several ions of naira during the former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan administration.
He was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for collecting over N750 million from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
In her ruling on a criminal case that lasted for years, the presiding judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu handed down a two year jail term or an option of fine to the tune of N13 million.
Okupe thereafter paid the N13 million fine and escaped being sent to prison
Reacting, the Director of Media and Publicity for Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, mocked Okupe, saying he doesn’t deserve to continue occupying his office as DG of Obi’s campaign as he will de-market Obi of he doesn’t resign honourably.
Onanuga said the only option presently open for the former PDP stalwart was for him to bow out of the campaign “honourably.”
He said, “Okupe should resign from his post as DG of Obi’s Campaign. He should do so honorably. The court has spoken. He should no longer be involved in the campaign.”
