Court remands 21 year old boy for stabbing his father in Zaria mosque

A 21 year old boy, Musa Lawal has been remanded in Correctional Centre, Zaria on the order of the chief magistrates’ court for attempting to kill his father while praying in mosque.

The Police alleged that the accused who is a butcher stabbed his father in a mosque at Rimin Tsiwa area of Zaria in Kaduna State.

The Chief Magistrate, Ramatu Dalhatu didn’t take Lawal’s plea, but she ordered that he should be remanded in the Correctional Center, till the legal advice is sought.

The Magistrate explained that she lacked jurisdiction to try cases under sections 240, 293 and 199 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of 2017 and adjourned till January 17.

The Prosecution counsel, ASP Sarki Abdullahi, told the court that the incident occurred on December 14 at about 14.00 hours.

He said the suspect was arrested by Muntari Musa and brought to the Zaria City Divisional Police Headquarters.

He said a knife stained with blood was recovered from the suspect.

The police said the suspect used the knife to stab his father, Lawal Danja, twice on his back while he was praying in a mosque in Rimin Tsiwa, Zaria.

They said the offence contravened sections 240, 293 and 199 of the Kaduna State Criminal Law 2017.
