Lagos Assembly passes N1.768 trillion budget into law

The sum of N1.768 trillion 2023 budget for Lagos State has been passed into law by the State House of Assembly on Monday.

The figure brings over N100 billion above the sum that was initially presented to the legislative Chamber by the State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the 2023 budget in October.

Change of Name

The governor had on the 17th October, 2022 presented the sum of N1.69 trillion 2023 budget to the State Assembly.

After consideration of the budget documents by the State parliament, the
capital expenditure was increased to N1.190 trillion from N932 billion, and recurrent expenditure cut down to N748 billion from the N759 billion presented by the governor.

Sectoral allocations also showed that N3,228,396,960 was approved as the new Overhead Cost of the Office of Civic Engagement for drug abuse advocacy.

The Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, thanked his colleagues for their collective sacrifice and swiftness in handling the appropriation bill.

He said their action showed their love for rh progress of Lagos State, and hoped that residents would show their satisfaction with the lawmakers and the All Progressives Congress (APC) by voting for candidates of the party in the 2023 elections.

Obasa also urged those to implement the budget to constantly be conscious of the fact that residents are yearning for more dividends of democracy.
