The 2023 general election is going to be the toughest in political history of the nation with a likely run-off of presidential election among the contenders, a group has predicted.
Towards this, a group operating under the aegis of New Dream Nigeria Initiative (NNDI) at a press conference on Monday in Abuja, revealed that it will mobilise electorate ahead of the general election in February, 2023.
The group said about 545 grassroot representatives from 109 Senatorial districts have been invited to Abuja for a town hall meeting with all the presidential candidates.
Director General of the NNDI, Dr Onwubuya Breakforth said, the interactive meeting would take place with all the presidential candidates to enable electorate from the grassroot go to know who their presidential candidates are, given that out of all, one of them must emerge as President.
According to the DG, the country has been bedevilled with social challenges that should not be taken for granted, hence, everyone should see themselves as stakeholders at ensuring that the right person was elected in the election.
He noted the interactive session is a town hall meeting where presidential candidates would tell Nigerians what they can do and also be ready to be held accountable while in office, insisting that when leaders are compelled to account for their stewardship, the nation could compete with other advance countries.
He said: “The 545 delegates NNDI as grassroot representatives will be convening at Nicon Luxury, Abuja for a decisive and interactive session with 18 presidential candidates contesting in 25th presidential election in February, 2023.
“They will discuss issues of boiling oil theft, fuel subsidy, insecurity, epileptic power supply, bad road, unemployment, high cost of living, lack of infrastructure, incessant ASUU strikes, bad governance among others.”
According to him, the town hall meeting will be different as it’s those at the grassroot that will participate.
