2023: Court nullifies Akwa Ibom APC governorship election

A Federal High Court in Uyo on Monday annulled the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election that produced Mr Akanimo Udofia as 2023 governorship candidate for Akwa Ibom State.

The primary became a subject of controversy leading to litigation after Mr Udofia was declared winner of the primary election.

Delivering her judgement, Justice Agatha Okeke ordered the party to recondict the primary election within 14 days, citing irregularities as responsible for the annulment of the earlier exercise.

The primary election of APC was challenged by Senator Ita Enang, who lay claim to the ticket.

Justice Okeke concurred with Mr Enang’s argument, and ruled that Udofia was not a member of the APC as he did not participate in all the stages of the process for electing a governorship candidate of the party.
