Contractors berated for delaying construction of Almajiri schools in Nasarawa
Stakeholders on education have expressed dismay on slow pace of work on project site executed by contractors handling various projects awarded to them by Universal Basic Education Commission/Islamic Development Bank Bilingual Education program in Nasarawa state.
The stakeholders who showed they are displeased with the cart walk on projects in a supervision visit met in all the three project site which include, Nasarawa, Wamba and Kwandare recently.
Speaking to our correspondent shortly after the meeting, the stakeholders task the contractors to speed up work to meet with the contractual obligations.
Architect Samuel Obaje of the View Coast Development Partnership is the consultant of Bilingual Boarding School projects in the state described the project as very disappointed.
“We are not satisfied with the progress of work because the contractors are behind scheduled from the programs of the work.
Hensaid, the delay may be as a result of non-advance payment to contractors.
“Though in the course of our interactions with them, they assured us that they will sit up”, just as he urged the contractor to double their efforts through sourcing for funds somewhere to finish the work instead of waiting for advance payment.
On his part, the Director of Syncro Nigeria Limited, handlers of Kwandare project, Mallam Zanna Usman told our correspondent that the work was given to them on June 28 2022, 2 weeks after which they mobilized to the site.
“We did a site plan, survey, provide facilities and done excavation of all the structures. He maintained.
He further explained that they have done a lot concerning and curriculums of foundation, stating that they are working on grounding of hustles.
“Actually, we have gone far in searching for money elsewhere for speedy of this project such places we went include banks, but interest was on the high side where some are demanding for 35 and others 37 percents. He lamented.
“We have applied for advance payment from up to 20 percent of the total contract sum for the past 3 months but, up till this moment we haven’t got it.
Also the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, frowned at the contractors handling the 3 Almajiri boarding school projects and called on them to ensure completion of projects within stipulated period.
The State Program Manager, Hajiya Zainab Magaji lamented on how the contractors are not leaving up to expectations, “yet we the client from the state government side appreciated the sponsors, contractor and supervisor for making this project a reality.
“This is long awaited project we expected for the past 4 years but, now it has started and definitely one day it will come to pass, Insha Allah.
Our correspondent report that the Universal Basic Education Commission/ Islamic Development Bank Bilingual Education program Almajiri’s Boarding that the time frame of the projects is 1 year.
