Suspected vandal electrocuted, others arrested
A unidentified suspected vandal has been electrocuted in the Kanke community of Plateau State while four others were apprehended by members of some communities in Bauchi State.
The suspect was said to have gone to the Kalashi Distribution substation where he was electrocuted in the act while vandalising the transformer.
Head, Corporate Communications, Jos Electricity Distribution Plc, Dr Friday Adakole Elijah in a press statement issued on Thursday said the matter was reported at the Kanke police Divisional office where some law enforcement agents came and evacuated the corpse for investigation.
Meanwhile, four suspects were also arrested by members of the public in various communities in Bauchi while vandalizing electricity facilities.
The suspects who have been handed over to law enforcement agencies were – Dauda James (22 years), Enoch Mugana (19 years), and Sani Adamu (25 years).
The trio at the point where they were caught had succeeded in cutting four core armoured cables 150mm while the fourth one was an 18-year-old toddler.
Commenting on the development, the Managing Director of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc, Engr Abdu Bello Mohammed commended members of the communities for their vigilance which culminated in the arrest of the suspected criminals and urged them to take ownership of electricity facilities in their environments.
It would be recalled that to stem the menace of vandalism and energy theft, the Managing Director recently paid a courtesy visit to security formations in the company’s areas of operations.
