Foundation donates multi-million naira hospital to Plateau community

The Peter Bawa and Anna Foundation has commissioned a multi-million Ultra Modern Peter Bawa and Anna Memorial hospital Kwande in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State to provide medical services to vulnerable persons who are confronted with life-threatening diseases in the community.

The 50-bed hospital which was commissioned by Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong was built by Miskoom Dr. Godfrey Peter Bawa in memory of his late Parents, Peter Bawa and Anna Bawa to provide accessible and affordable healthcare services in fulfilment of universal health coverage.

While donated the equipped Memorial Hospital, Bishop Mrs Tina Bawa Shitgurum who spoke on behalf of her husband, Miskoom Godfrey Peters Bawa Shitgurum, said the memorial hospital was conceived and built to address communicable and non-communicable diseases ravaging poor farmers in the community.

She described her husband, Miskoom Shitgurum as a kind man who is ready to give all for service to God and humanity and for the prosperity of his people.

Mrs Shitgurum explained that the hospital was built as a result of the health crisis in the community where people travel for kilometres and still find it difficult to access medical care.

She explained that over 177 medical surgeries have been performed by a team of professional doctors and consultants during the free medical outreach as part of the activities marking the commissioning.

Governor Simon Lalong, who was represented by Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sylvester Tapgun described the initiative for the construction of the world-class hospital as an attempt to give back to society.

He noted that the initiative for the building of the memorial hospital did not come to him as a surprise in view of the cream of respected and honourable personalities Kwande community has produced.

He urged the people of Kwande to maintain and guard the facility jealously for their own health services.

The Chairman of Qua’an Local Government Council Hon. Ernest Da’a
pledged to support the hospital to ensure that the people continue to enjoy the facility.

The Paramount ruler of Kwo Chiefdom, HRH Miskoom Fidelis Longtoe Attahiru I, described the hospital as the best thing that has happened to the community and said it will go a long way in addressing diverse health challenges in the community.

He appreciated Dr Godfrey Shitgurum and Bishop Mrs Tina Shitgurum and the entire family for giving back to the people of Kwande.

Attahiru urged the people of the area to honour the gesture, cherish it, protect and make the best use of the facility.

The traditional ruler promised to do everything posible to ensure the growth and sustainance of the hospital.

He called on the people to maintain and sustained the hospital for this generation and generation yet unborn.

Dr Benedict Baamshal Mairiga, who give an insight into the facility, said it is a 50-bed hospital equipped with modern health facilities with a status of a General Hospital.

He explained that health services in the hospital would be accessible and affordable for members of the community to address health crises among the residents.

Member, Board of Trustees of the Peter Bawa and Anna Foundation, Miskoom Larry Peters Bawa, said the hospital was built as part of service to God and humanity.

Our Correspondent reports that hundreds of residents especially women and children were also given free medical care organised by Peter Bawa Foundation in Collaboration with Tina Baw Ministries International to celebrate the commissioning of the Memorial Hospital.
