British Prime Minister, Liz Truss resigns amid economic instability

After one month in office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss has resigned amid on Thursday morning amid economic instability.

The Conservative leader announced her resignation from office in a terse statement she read outside Downing Street.

Speaking in front of dozens of reporters she said she came into office at a time of “great economic and international instability”.

She added that she cannot deliver the mandate she was elected on by Tory members and is resigning.

Providing some background information, a BBC report said: “She had been meeting the chairman of the 1922 Committee of backbench MPs as more Tories called for her to quit.

“Deputy Prime Minister Therese Coffey and Tory party chairman Jake Berry have also been at Downing Street.

“Truss’s premiership came under renewed pressure after the home secretary resigned and a chaotic vote on fracking.

“More than a dozen Conservative MPs have now publicly called on her to step down – with the number growing by the hour.

“There was fury on Wednesday evening around the vote and the methods used to get MPs to vote with the government.”
