Gunmen invades hospital, kill medical doctor others in Niger

Gunmen believed to be armed bandits Tuesday invaded Gulu general hospital in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State killing seven persons including a medical doctor and a pharmacist.

The Tuesday’s attack on Gulu is coming less than two weeks after a deadly attacks on a neighbouring Ebbo and Evuti communities where 14 farmers were killed while working on their farm.

The daredevil gun men also slaughtered four other patients among the abducted patients.

CAPITAL POST gathered that the armed men also evacuated dozens of patients on admission in the emergency wards of the hospital.

The gun men invaded the hospital in the early hours of Tuesday on motorcycles numbering 39 carrying three persons each on arrival they held the entire visitors and the staff hostages for over four hours at the end of which they killed seven of their victims.

It was also gathered that the gun men were both armed to teeth with dangerous weapons such as AK47, AK49 and knives which they used freely on their victims.

CAPITAL POST findings revealed that the armed bandits have for the past three weeks placed the entire southern part of Lapai and other neighbouring communities under heavy siege before embarking on wreaking total onslaught against the locals.

Already, residents of Gulu and sorrounding communities are now leaving in palpable tension as they now flee their homes for fear of another deadly attack on them by the dare devil armed men.

A visit to the Gulu, Ebbo and Evuti, by this reporter Tuesday indicated that the three communities are now ghost of themselves as locals mostly women , aged and children have deserted their homes and are taking refuge in the neighbouring villages.

Commissioner for internal security and home affairs in Niger state, Mr Emmanuel Umar could not be reached for his comments as several calls on his phone could not be responded.

However, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), in the State, Wasiu Abiodun, DSP who neither confirm nor denied the report only said, “the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ogundele Joshua Ayodeji has just visited the scene to ascertain the number of casualties.

“I cannot tell you anything until he return before I can issue a statement on that. For now I cannot just tell you what I don’t know.”
