Wike returns, resumes crisis with Atiku

Rivers State governor, Chief Nyesom Wike Monday returned to Portharcourt from his short trip to Spain and demanded an apology from the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar over his comment.

Wike said such comment that brothers on ethnic politics coming from Atiku at a time of transition was unbelievable by him, stressing that it gives vent to the call for equity, fairness and justice.

He called on the Peoples Democratic Party to quickly resolve the controversy so as not to portray the party that is preparing to take over in 2023 as being insensitive and lacking justice.

CAPITAL POST recalled that PDP has been locked in crisis which the governor of Rivers State has demanded for resignation of the National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.

Wike, however, travelled to Spain with other aggrieved governors, and upon his return on Monday, he demanded for apology from Atiku over his comment.

The governors, Wike travelled out with are, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Samuel Ortom (Benue).

Recall that Atiku was quoted as saying, “I know the whole of this country. I have built bridges across this country.

“I think what an average northerner needs, is somebody who is from the north, who also understands the other parts of Nigeria, and who has been able to build bridges across the rest of the country. This is what the northerner needs.

“He (the northerner) doesn’t need a Yoruba or an Igbo candidate. This is what the northerner needs. I stand before you as a pan-Nigerian of northern origin.”
