Journalists for Peace Inaugurated in Kaduna

The Inauguration of the Journalists for Peace (JFP) which was held in Kaduna on Wednesday has been applauded by many as the right step in the right direction. The well attended occasion which took place at Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat attracted many personalities, including: NGO’s, CSO’s, representatives of religious organizations and other stake holders.

The Chairman of the NUJ Kaduna state chapter, Hajia Asma’u Yawo Halilu who represented the national president of the union, described JFP as a great initiate that will encourage peace and harmony in Kaduna state and the whole of Nigeria. She went further to say that the need for journalists to imbibe the rudiments of conflict reporting cannot be over emphasized, especially in volatile climes like ours.

Change of Name

In his remarks, the Chairman of JFP, Chief Andrew Fadason (the Galadiman Gbagi), said the initiative was created to alter the style of how journalists present their reports so as to ensure peace and unity in the country.

Journalist for Peace is an organization that is made up of seasoned and patriotic Journalists with the collective aim to change the narrative of reporting conflicts. One of the ways that the organization intends to achieve its objectives is by encouraging reporting that will first evaluate the root causes of conflicts, and then stimulate conversations and dialogues that will lead to peace.
