Strange fire razes Kogi Assembly building amid crisis with Dangote group
Strange fire has gutted the Kogi State House of Assembly in the early morning of Monday destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The fire incident, a misfortune of its kind occurred amid crisis between the Dangote Group, operators of Dangote Cement which is located at Obajana in the State.
Both Dangote and Kogi State government are at daggers drawn over ownership status and tax evasion claims which the State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole adopted a resolution to shut down the factory.
On Wednesday last week, the factory was shut down by the local vigilantes in the presence of some State Government officials.
Unfortunately on Monday, fire razed the building hosting the legislative Chamber, causing extensive damage to the floor of the house located at Crusher Area, Lokoja.
Early callers to the scene were the Speaker, and the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara, and though, it remains uncertain the cause of the inferno, the Speaker, Mathew Kolawole said, he suspected sabotage.
He said, security agents should be allowed to investigate the incident.
“We should leave security people to do their work and give us a report going forward”, he noted.
