The sealing of Dangote Cement, Obajana over the ownership status got messier over the weekend as Kogi State government has accused the company of plot to attack state officials.

Kogi State government said it has uncovered plot by Dangote to use criminal elements against its officials and to also release documents that would incriminate the officials.

Change of Name

The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Kingsley Fanwo stated this in a statement he made available to journalists on Saturday in Lokoja.

The statement alleged that a meeting was held in the night where there were plots to attack Kogi government officials.

CAPITAL POST earlier reported that Kogi State House of Assembly in an adopted resolution sealed the premises of Dangote Cement at Obajana and the coal in Olamaboro and Ankpa in the Eastern Senatorial district due to failure of Dangote Group of Companies to honour its invitation for an investigation.

Kogi State government believes it has a 10% equity share in the company.

The factory which was initially known as Obajana Cement, a name derived from the host community called “Obajana”. was established by the late Prince Abubakar Audu when he was the first governor of Kogi State in 1992.

However, Fanwo in the statement claimed that he was in possession of the tape of the alleged meeting where: “a top management staff of Dangote Group erroneously called a top government official and said the meeting was going on to hatch their satanic plans against the government and people of Kogi State.

The call which came in at 10.06pm went on for 28 minutes, 12 seconds, detailing how the Dangote Group intends to doctor documents to prove they own the cement company, 100 per cent; how they intend to use the DSS and other security agencies to arrest top government officials on frivolous charges; how they intend to use the EFCC to arrest some government officials in order to cow them; how they also intend to use the media to promote falsehood against the government and people of Kogi State and sundry other satanic plans against the people and government of our dear state.”

Fanwo further alleged that there was a “… plan to use the press to attack the Governor and the Government of Kogi State. Plan to deploy people to the major TV Stations in the country to attack the Governor and the Government of Kogi State.
