PDP crisis: Ortom advises Ayu to quit
Benue State governor, Mr Samuel Ortom has made his stand known for the first since crisis between Rivers State governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu broke out.
Ortom who is Ayu’s kinsman has advised the embattled National Chairman of the party to resign or seek to be pardoned.
Wike and some PDP leaders have insisted that Dr Iyorchia Ayu must resign for a Southerner to become the National Chairman of the party, but which Ayu has refused.
Wike and his group have told the party, that they could only support Alhaji Atiku’s candidature on the condition that Iyorchia Ayu throws in the towel.
Ortom stated during the Executive Council meeting in Government House Makurdi at the weekend, recalling how Ayu promised to resign, if a northern candidate emerges presidential candidate of the party, urging him to honour his words.
The Governor said: ”Ayu told the whole world that if a northern candidate emerges he will resign. So where is the honour now to continue in office?
“If you don’t want to resign beg for pardon. But it is not enough to say your tenure is four years and you won’t resign as you said it yourself.“
