ASUU invites President Buhari to teach for directing reopening of Universities
The striking Universities lecturers have invited President Muhammadu Buhari to the class to teach students for directing the reopening of Universities on Monday.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have been on strike since February, 2022 over salaries, upgrade of Universities and other unmet demands.
The Federal government last week got judgement by the National Industrial Court that ASUU has no right to continue with the strike, but which the Union appealed.
Reacting to the directive of the Federal Government to reopen Universities for students to go back to classes through a letter issued by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on Monday, the Academic Staff Union of Universities insisted that they would not reopen.
The directive was contained in a letter that was signed by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Abubakar Rasheed.
Reacting, the Zonal Coordinator of ASUU in Lagos State, Adelaja Odukoya said, the move of the Federal Government is to sack lecturers, adding that President Buhari and his praise singers will come and teach in universities.
Odukoya said that the government may import lecturers from Ghana with better pay where a professor earns about 13,000 cedis equivalent to about an N1.5million monthly and is expected to be paid N460,000 in Nigeria.
“I wish them the best of luck in their misadventure. Those who fail to learn from history will be bombed by the consequences of their stupidity and indiscretion.”
