Kogi State House of Assembly has directed the shut down of Dangote group’s operations in the State for serially snubbing invitation to appear before the House.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole announced this on Wednesday during a public hearing on activities of Dangote group in the State.

Change of Name

The Speaker directed the State Commissioner of Police to seal operations by Dangote coal at Olamaboro, Ankpa and Omala Local Government Council, all in the eastern Senatorial flank of the State.

Dangote Coal, is a subsidiary of Dangote PLC which operates in Kogi State, but CAPITAL POST could not confirm if the directive include Dangote Cement at Obajana.

The Speaker also directed the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to effect the directive pending when the management of Dangote appears before the House for clarification on grey areas.

The Speaker lamented on how Dangote is making billions of naira on daily basis in Kogi, while causing environmental degradation, but has not been giving anything back to the State.

According to him, several invitations have been extended to the company to appear before the legislature, but failed to do so, noting that no individuals or organisations should be above the law.

The Speaker explained that the House of Assembly was investigating to know at what point did Obajana Cement changed to Dangote Cement PLC, adding that the House want to also know when the 10% of the State’s share was divested into the company.

The Speaker noted that they were out to know the Certificate of Ownership and many more of the company operation in Kogi State.

The House, however, ordered the management of Dangote groups of Company to reappear before the House on Monday, September 26 2022 for further investigations on the organisation.
